On Saturday, the 21st of September, the garden will open its doors for an exciting experiment. For one day, you will become part of a bioregional* community. Through various masterclasses led by amazing thinkers and doers, we will co-design and build a new society. We will work around the central question: “How do we want to be together?” by tapping into the diversity of cultures, landscapes and species that inhabit the northern region of Amsterdam.

Why?

In our Western world, where individualism and globalization overshadow local cultures, the connection to the direct ecological and social environment drifts away. It’s easier to buy fruit from Ecuador, than to recognize edible plants on the streets in Amsterdam. We all agree that loneliness is a pressing problem, yet at the same time, people hardly know their own neighbors.

What can you expect?

This event opens a brave yet playful space to redefine and explore our current lifestyles. During the day programme, you’ll get a taste of what it means to be part of a community and how to find your role in this one-day society. It offers the experience of what can happen if our actions are based on responsibility, reciprocity and are rooted in the local context. In the evening the harvest of the day is celebrated by a garden party with music and performances.

For whom?

This event is for the curious, the community seekers, the storytellers, the story seekers, the introverted and extroverted world-builders, the neurotypicals and the neurodiverse. Prepare yourself for active participation with your hands, head and heart- with respect for your own limits and abilities. Whether you come alone, with friends, your granddad or your kids (this day is suitable for participants aged 7 and up), we are looking forward to your presence.

Day program (ticket includes dinner): 10:00 – 19:00

• Morning: Co-creative community building
• Lunch: BYO – Potluck
• Afternoon: Masterclasses
• Dinner (included in the price)

Garden Party: 19:00 – 23:00

• Grand opening of the one-day society
• Celebration time! DJ, music, dancing, fire

Children under the age of 7 have free entrance, everyone above this age has to buy a ticket.

*A bioregion is a distinct area defined by natural boundaries, such as watersheds and ecosystems, rather than by human-made borders. It encompasses the interconnected communities of plants, animals, and humans that share and interact within this environment.
